Hello Jaguars! The month of February is Black History Month, as many have known. I’m going to tell you some fun facts and important figures during this month. First, Black History Month was founded and celebrated in 1976. Though we celebrate it in February, some other areas, like the UK and Europe, celebrate it in October. Some important African American figures in history that have made an impact on today’s world are Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Harriett Tubman, Rosa Parks, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and Kamala Harris. These people have helped shape the United States into what it is today, and we should be grateful for them! In February, the virtue of the month is empathy: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry…” James 1:19. Empathy means the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. We should all be empathetic at times and try to help others as much as we can.
