WiiBoard & SMART Board Resources

We are beginning to compile a list of classroom computer resources for our teachers (or anyone who is interested for that matter!) and plan to continue to post more and more links here pertaining to interactive learning software and websites that work with interactive whiteboards like the WiiBoard, SMART boards, Promethean boards, etc.

The resources are broken down into categories. Subject specific links will be in their appropriate category and general interactive links will be in the Interactive Whiteboard category.

All links on this page are to sites and software that are completely free to use in your classroom!

Interactive Whiteboard Links:

New!SMART Notebook Express – a completely free web based version of SMART Notebook that allows you to Open, Create, Edit, and Use SMART Notebook files from any computer and with any type of interactive white board (WiiBoards included).

There is a web based version that works with all major web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, etc.) and there is a free downloadable offline version that works on Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems!

We would like to encourage anyone who is interested in using SMART Notebook on their own computer at home, school laptop, or even classroom computer to give it a try because it is easy to use and doesn’t require installation or anything. You simply visit the website and start using it (seriously, it’s that easy)!

oNSBORD – The ultimate WiiBoard implementation! oNSBORD is what Jordan Catholic School is using in their classrooms to create a high-tech learning environment also known as the Interactive Whiteboard – we like to call it the WiiBoard! :~) oNSBORD has taken the original Wiimote Interactive Whiteboard idea (founded by Johnny Chung Lee) and has perfected it by making it work seamlessly in the modern day classroom. Once installed properly oNSBORD can and will function better than the commercial products provided by SMART and even Promethean! Please note that their main website is in Dutch so be sure to copy and paste the URL into Google Translate in order to be able to read it! Be sure to check out their DIY guide located here.

Promethean ActivInspire – Free Personal Edition can be used with non-Promethean products once you obtain a Teacher Consent Licence

Jarnal – Java Based Notetaker and PDF Annotator – Free and open-source application for notetaking, sketching, keeping a journal, making a presentation, annotating a document – including pdf – or collaborating using a stylus, mouse or keyboard. It is similar to Microsoft Windows Journal and to the earlier Mimeo whiteboarding and Palm notepad applications.

New!Mission US is a multimedia project featuring free interactive adventure games set in different eras of U.S. history. The first game, Mission 1: “For Crown or Colony?,” puts the player in the shoes of Nat Wheeler, a 14-year-old printer’s apprentice in 1770 Boston. As Nat navigates the city and completes tasks, he encounters a spectrum of people living and working there when tensions mount before the Boston Massacre. Ultimately, the player determines Nat’s fate by deciding where his loyalties lie.
