Jordan’s P.E. Swimming Class

Jordan Catholic School Offers Unique Physical Education Programs

Jordan second graders have recently completed their two-week swimming class. The swimming lessons are one of the most popular sessions of the Jordan physical education program. Jordan is unique in that it offers swimming instruction each year for grades 1- 4 as a part of the physical education program.

Each student’s swimming skills are evaluated and the students are divided into one of three skill levels. Mrs. Jill Kenyon, Jordan Central’s P.E. teacher, and two other certified swim instructors from the Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center (RIFAC) provide the group instruction. RIFAC is a wonderful facility and our Jordan students are on their best behavior when visiting. They know that if they work hard each day, the last day of instruction is play time in the pool!

Parent and grandparent volunteers assist by supervising in the locker rooms. Their main duty seems to be keeping the decibel level of the excitement contained! Mrs. Kenyon appreciates their help.

The Jordan Booster Club sponsors the swimming lessons for Grades 1-4. The Booster Club also sponsors bowling instruction for Grades 5 & 6. The Boosters pay for the facility rental, instructor’s fees, and transportation to and from Jordan. The swimming and bowling lessons are a unique feature of the Jordan physical education program. Many, many thanks to the Booster Club for making the swimming and bowling programs available to our children!
