I helped Jordan Catholic School consolidate into the wonderful school it is today. I began teaching at St. Pius X in the fall of 1972. I taught 7th grade English and reading.
In the spring of 1974, St. Mary’s, Rock Island, St. Pius X, St. Joseph, & Sacred Heart decided to combine into one school system. In the fall of the 1974, Jordan began its 1st year as a consolidated school system. I taught 7th grade English, reading, & spelling at St. Joseph’s Campus.
I taught for 3 years in the consolidated system until I was needed by my terminally ill mother. I left Jordan, but continued substituting in many of the area schools, both public and private.
I was rehired at Jordan in 1993 & have been a full time teacher ever since.
What is special about what I do? I believe that a teacher, such as myself, can make a difference in the lives of students. I believe teachers lead and assist students in discovery. A teacher can inspire students by making learning meaningful for every student. A teacher can inspire and encourage students to dream and transform lives. Teachers can win the confidence of their students in order to help them believe in themselves and to give them some insight of what they might become.
What is special about Jordan? Jordan School is special because the parents believe in a quality and positive education for their children. The parents of Jordan School believe that their children will fulfill their potential if they work in cooperation with teachers, coaches, clergy, and parishioners. With the Jordan school and church community working together each student will be able to make learning meaningful and inspire students to live God-centered lives in order to make the world a better place.
What am I most looking forward to this school year? I am most looking forward to having all the Jordan students under one roof for the first time in Jordan history. I am also looking forward to developing lessons on the new Smart Board in my classroom and using the new science lab for experiments that were impossible to do in the classroom. Hopefully, all this technology will continue to inspire my students to fulfill their potential.
Hobbies:
Traveling, reading, walking and exercising, cross stitching, scrape booking, and visiting my two boys who live in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids.
Favorite thing about Jordan?
My favorite thing about Jordan is the friendships I have made at Jordan, including teachers, parents, and students.
Little known personal fact?
I enjoy traveling and visiting new and interesting places. I was only 138 miles from the North Pole last summer when I visited Alaska. I was able to feed Santa’s reindeer.
