What is special about what I do?
I am possibly the first teacher the student has ever met. I love watching each student get acquainted with the classroom, the daily routine, and with each other. It always amazes me how much these children learn and how much they grow throughout the year.
What is special about Jordan?
The teacher and parent relationship. At Jordan, the parents are actively involved in their child’s learning experience. The teacher and parent work together to help the child have the most positive learning experience. I feel that because of the parent/teacher collaboration the children feel more secure and safer in their learning environment.
What am I most looking forward to this school year?
I am very excited to “Graduate” from Preschool and move on to Kindergarten. I cannot wait to teach the same students for a full day. I am excited to watch the students grow!
Teaching Philosophies:
My philosophy of education focuses on the classroom setup, the role of the teacher, and the teaching methods used in the classroom. I would like to begin by discussing the classroom setup.
I believe that the classroom should be a place where the students feel comfortable and safe. It should be welcoming to the students and inviting to make each student want to come in and learn. The students should not feel scared to share their thoughts or opinions. The classroom should encourage students to respect one another, but this can only be accomplished if the students have a positive role model to follow.
I believe that in order to be a teacher you have to be able to take on many roles. A teacher should play the role of a coach, guide, and listener all while being a facilitator. If a teacher can take on all of these roles, the students will become comfortable with their teacher and will begin to trust him or her. The students will be able to see how much the teacher wants the student to succeed. The only way you can make sure students succeed is if you know what teaching method benefits the students the most.
Each student should be taught in a way that they can reach their full potential. I believe subjects should be taught in a variety of ways to meet each individual need. For example, some students learn better in a small group setting while others benefit from a large group activity or discussion. A teacher needs to take the time to learn about each student. This includes how the student acts in school and what their home environments are like. By inquiring about each student, the teacher will gain more knowledge and be able to use the knowledge to understand each student. Thus, assisting the student to have the most meaningful learning experience possible.
